Cisco APIC uses REST API operations against managed-object distinguished names. Creating a new managed object, such as an ACI tenant, is performed by sending an HTTP POST request containing an XML or JSON payload to the appropriate APIC URI. The payload defines the tenant object, normally an fvTenant, and includes required attributes such as the tenant name. GET retrieves existing objects and cannot create a tenant. PATCH is generally associated with partial modification semantics but is not the standard APIC method shown for creating this managed object. PUT is also not the method used by the APIC object model for the illustrated tenant-creation operation. A successful authenticated POST causes APIC to validate the payload and commit the new tenant to the management information tree. Therefore, POST is the correct HTTP method.
